By of the Journal Sentinel The pastor of Marquette University's Church of the Gesu died Sunday. After being diagnosed with inoperable pancreatic cancer in January, gave away most of his possessions, visited friends and met with Pope Francis. He announced his illness in February with a letter to his congregation and decided against undergoing chemotherapy or radiation. He also planned his funeral and wrote his obituary. Schlegel, 72, died in Omaha, Neb., where he served as president of Creighton University for 11 years.
